Globally, liver disease accounts for more than 2 million deaths a year.
Africa has amongst the highest incidence and mortality rates from liver disease
in the world. This is due to the high prevalence of Hepatitis B and C, associated
complications of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) – cirrhosis is currently
the tenth-leading cause of death in Africa.
Liver diseases tend to be silent until complications present. But many are preventable
and, if diagnosed early, are treatable, and in the case of hepatitis C, even curable.
SOLDA is proud to present a 90-minute webinar focusing on challenges and
solutions for liver disease in Africa.
The 90-minute program takes place on World Liver Day – 19 April 2024 – and
showcases presentations from leading experts from the five African regions.
The scientific program focuses on regionally prevalent and emerging liver diseases
and special emphasis will be placed on ensuring the voices of those with lived
experiences will be heard.
